  • This is the second year in a row the fourth race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup has been held at Charlotte Motor Speedway (2015 – 2016). Charlotte was the fifth race of the Chase from 2004 – 2014.

Eight tracks have hosted Chase races all 12 previous years – New Hampshire, Charlotte, Dover, Homestead, Kansas, Martinsville, Phoenix, & Talladega

  • 10 different drivers have won the Charlotte Chase races, but Jimmie Johnson (three) is the only driver with multiple wins (2004, 2005 and 2009).  
  • Twice the winner of the Charlotte Motor Speedway Chase race has gone on to win the title:
    • In 2009, Jimmie Johnson won from the pole at Charlotte, and went on to win his fourth consecutive NSCS title.

In 2014, Kevin Harvick won from the seventh starting position at Charlotte, and went on to win his first career NSCS title.

  • The worst finish in a Chase race at Charlotte by a driver that went on to win the title was 25th by Tony Stewart (2005).
  • Last season’s champion, Kyle Busch, finished 20th in Charlotte’s Chase race after starting second – the second worst finish at Charlotte by the eventual champion.

  • One non-Chase driver has won the Chase race at Charlotte Motor Speedway – Jamie McMurray (2010) he was ranked 14th in the points at the time of his win.
  • Nine drivers have won the pole for Charlotte’s Chase races – Jeff Gordon (two), Ryan Newman (two), Elliott Sadler, Greg Biffle, Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth, Scott Riggs and Tony Stewart (each have one).
